“Margaret Cargill’s background as a linguist and research communications educator and Patrick O’Connor’s experience as both research scientist and educator synergize to improve both the science and art of scientific writing. This book is written primarily for speakers of English as a second language. The advice is excellent, but too elementary for native English-speakng graduate students (the audience in my course). Thus, it provides some guidance, but could be improved for many graduate students in the USA by taking a deeper look at technical writing in the sciences.

A very well written, easily read reference for scientific writers, especially early career researchers like myself. It left me wondering why these principles and information weren’t better presented during my undergraduate training, especially considering how important scientifc writing is to the scientific process. An invaluable resource, I’d recommend it to any early career researcher who is beginning to write up their research.
